Supplements and Their Benefits and Week 5 Weigh-In and Measurement Update

Foreword:

I am not employed by or sponsored by any of the following products or companies. I do not own the rights to the images, These are just the products that I use, with flavour being the main thing that influenced my buying. I’m sure any Creatine product is just as effective as the next! It is a simple fact that trying to get fit without supplements is like trying to make mashed potatoes without potatoes – it just doesn’t work!

OxyShred – Gummy Snake

My day starts with a glass of water, and a scoop of OxyShred. The Gummy Snake flavour is a kind of guilty pleasure of mine, but it is not the only option. My preferred shop Supplement King at Uptown carries 11 varieties on their site, including an exclusive Peach Candy Rings. Yum!

OxyShred is packed with ingredients such as acetyl L-carnitine and green coffee bean extract. These aid in the body’s fat-burning processes and reduce carbohydrate absorption. This can be helpful for people like me who are trying to lose weight. I use this in the morning due to its caffeine content: one scoop contains 150mg!

Ghost Legend Pre-Workout: WarHeads Sour Watermelon

Now, you may be starting to see a pattern, and one that may hint at my issues with weight in the first place. I love things that are tasty, like candy and ice cream. However, I was not enjoying these in moderation and with ample exercise. I think that is part of the reason why using these supplements have been so effective for me; despite eating better and regularly working out, I don’t have that FOMO feeling when it comes to the sweet, sour, or salty things in life.

This product is dangerous, but in a good way. Even Spiderman can sense it:

A gif of spiderman sensing danger, and a gun coming into frame pointed at him. Above the gun is the name of the pre-workout.

Not only does it taste like melted jolly-ranchers, the 125mg of caffeine gives you a swift kick in the… nevermind. Let’s just say it works and you feel like your whole body is tingling. Either it’s working, or I’m actually allergic and my body is on fire.

Among other things, this pre-workout contains amino acids like L-citrulline, L-tyrosine, and creatine. Why is this important, you may ask? Well, I’m glad you did! Amino acids help the body:

  • Break down food.
  • Grow and repair body tissue.
  • Make hormones and neurotransmitters(like epinephrine and dopamine)
  • Provide an energy source.
  • Maintain healthy skin, hair and nails.
  • Build and repair muscle.
  • Boost your immune system.

Allmax Isoflex Pure Whey Protein – Vanilla

Using some quick maths, I deduced I needed the 5lb container due to its cost savings. I did, however, underestimate how much vanilla as a flavour is disgusting compared to chocolate. Perhaps my surprising low-calorie Twix Chocolate Wafer protein powder was just too good, so I spoiled all future protein powders? Alas, I must make do with the year’s supply of vanilla powder and pretend that I am fine.

A mustachioed-man stating he regrets everything. He looks very serious.

I kid, as vanilla is more versatile and can be used in things other than shakes. Protein pancakes, added to oatmeal, and, I just learned this while putting together this post, you can even make Coffee with protein powder. The Isoflex brand I use has 18 different amino acids, and contains 27g of protein in every scoop. At just 120 calories per serving, Allmax’s formula has one of, if not the best protein to calorie ratios I have seen. On top of that, it is tested to be clean for athlete’s use, not just below-average shmucks like me.
